Transborders Energy at the Australian Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage Conference 2021

Transborders Energy (TBE) has transfered its Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project origination, development and operation business to a new entity called deepC Store Limited. Please visit the deepC Store Limited website for more information and update on its CCS business.

Transborders Energy (Transborders) deepC Store Study Manager Matt Holding, presented at the Australian Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage Conference (virtual) on Thursday 19 August 2021 on the topic of floating carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Matt’s presentation was titled ‘deepC Store: Achieving the first floating CCS in Australia and Asia-Pacific’.

Matt provided an overview of:

  • deepC Store, the Australian floating CCS development

  • Competitive advantages of the deepC Store approach

  • Leveraging Partnerships to deliver success

Matt provided detailed insights into the structure and competitive advantages for the deepC Store:

  • Transborders has partnered with leading world-class energy and research organisations, whereby the partnership has the ability to engineer, procure, construct, operate and finance deepC Store. This allows deepC Store to be marketed to CO2 supply customers as an integrated end-to-end service.

  • The ability to transport CO2 further distances than what pipeline-based projects can transport in a cost-effective manner enables CO2 supply to be obtained from a longer distance, including supply from the Indo Pacific Region. This can assist in establishing Australia as a regional CCS hub.

  • The deepC Store concept is replicable and scalable at multiple locations within Australia and around the world, enabling a reduction in manufacturing costs through a design one - build many approach.

  • The floating concept employed by deepC Store can also reduce the environmental impacts compared to a pipeline-based development, through its significantly reduced disturbance footprint due to the floating nature of the design.

  • Residual risk reduction by locating the Floating Storage and Injection Hub near the injection reservoir, thereby confining the residual value risk to the wells and a short distance of the subsea umbilicals, flowlines and risers, whilst the CO2 carriers and FSI Hub will retain residual value as these assets may be redeployed.
